A Broadway Dance Post!
This past fall, I was given the chance to take an online Broadway Dance Class. To my surprise, this class taught me so much about the art and history of Broadway Dance and truly made me appreciate all its aspects. There is so much more to dance than meets the eye. Dance began so long ago and acted as an escape during world wars. People looked to dance for freedom, happiness and joy amidst very harsh times. Broadway dance even had something to do with the transformation of racism. In the beginning, Broadway Dance actually was a way for white people to make fun of blacks. They would paint their faces and humor the crowd. Yet, through the years, blacks also fought for their rights through dance. In the end, blacks became a huge part of Broadway dance through the passion of jazz and blues music.
In today's world, Broadway Dance continues to shine. New York City is proof of this! In my life thus far, I have seen many Broadway shows. My mom actually likes to attend these Broadway musicals in the city for family outings. Of course my brother does not love doing this, but we make him go anyway! I would love to hear anyone's favorite Broadway show. Please feel free to post under this any shows or YouTube videos involving the Broadway shows that you enjoy!
This specific video that I am providing for you today is a clip from one of my favorite Broadway shows, Anything Goes at the 2011 Tony Awards. Anything Goes is a fun and joyous musical. The main character is played by a well known actress, singer and dancer, Sutton Foster. You may also know her from her show on TV called Bunheads. Foster is such a graceful dancer and also brings humor and sass to the show. Please watch this clip! Hopefully you enjoy and see the hype about Broadway!

I absolutely going to Broadway shows! I have seen over 25 Broadway shows throughout my lifetime, and it is so hard to decide which one would be my favorite. I'm a huge theater dork! If I HAD to choose, I would say Les Mis was the best. It was such an amazing story, and was told so beautifully through its songs. (I was so happy to see it become a movie this year!) I would have to say to my second favorite Broadway show would be Book of Mormon. It was so hilarious that I actually started crying from laughing so hard.
ReplyDeleteIn response to your clip, I actually saw Sutton Foster in Anything Goes two summers back. It was amazing. It hit somewhere closer to home to me because I knew the score from performing in my high school's pit orchestra for its production of Anything Goes.
P.S. I love Bundheads =]
I love watching Broadway musicals! I had never known some of this history behind it though! The origin of this is incredible and definitely very ironic. This is a great video too! My favorite Broadway show has to be Jersey Boys though! Wish I could go again.
